A Small Interruption in the Regular Programming......

I still plan to show more quilt show eye candy, but today I want to do a little advertising for our local quilt guild, Pinetree Patchworkers. 

Our bi-annual (actually 3 years this time around) will take place on this coming Friday and Saturday. Here's the scoop:

If you are able, it will be worth a trip to the Brainerd Lakes area. There will be lots of vendors, lots of quilts, refreshments,  a FREE trunk show by Pam Dinndorf of Aardvark Quilts (no need to register for the trunk show), an awesome display of the Cherrywood Wicked Challenge quilts  and much more! If you missed the Wicked quilt collection at any of the national shows, you will be amazed at the detail and creativity in these quilts! And, of course, you can buy a chance to win our raffle quilt! 

Sunday Stitching

Not only was the shopping great at the Minnesota Quilt show, the quilts were amazing and so inspiring! 

Since it's Slow Sunday Stitching, I thought I would share a few that featured hand work.

This Bird of Paradise AKA Civil War Bride quilt made me want to make another one!
There are so many humorous details...notice the grave marker where the groom should be...guarded by a squirrel!

This was my favorite block--the broderie perse was amazing!

This block was pretty funny--the dog reminds me of Santa's Little Helper from the Simpson's.

This quilt of every kind of fuchsia imaginable was like a painting--gorgeous!

This was a great wool version of Primitive Garden--makes me wish the one I'm (not) working on is not the cotton version.

This eye catching quilt is all wool.

And this one--same as above but a bit brighter.

I've been in the mood to get back to some English Paper Piecing--perfect to work on during Game of Thrones.
 I was going to make a few more Little Gems, but then I got sucked into another sew along with Temecula Quilt Company on Instagram.

At least I don;t have to cut any fabric--my 1.5" squares are the perfect size for the half inch papers--and the Costco calzone packages are perfect to store them!.

Friday Fun!

Not really, it's laundry and cleaning day here on Moose Bay---boo!

But---it was a super fun week! 

I completed my last block for How Does Your Garden Grow--now on to the border!

The last clue before the big ThimbleCreek mystery reveal on Tuesday is finished...

I cheated a little and used my Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star ruler instead of making all the half square triangles as instructed in Clue 15. I have to make my investment in the ruler pay off--haha!
BTW: Joe planned to remove all the clues this week, but as I am writing this, they are still working--if you are interested in the pattern, act now!!

I felt so good about those finishes, that I jumped onto the Temecula Summer Sampler  Sew Along wagon--forget that I said "no more sampler quilts".
I already had the Block Tool (that I have never used) so again--investment pay off...

Yesterday my friend Sandi and I went to the Minnesota Quilt show in Duluth. There were some amazing quilts and, of course, tons of great vendors. I had a goal of beefing up my stash of blue and yellow wool--I think I did okay (and then some)!

I couldn't resist this little bundle of shirting's by Julie Hendricksen--I may need yardage of some of them! I also was on the lookout for some cheddar fabrics for my stash, but only came home with the one in the background.

And a few patterns, button packets and just a little thread came home with me too.
I'll share some of the wonderful quilts soon!

Scrappin' Around

I'm doing my best to keep on top of the ThimbleCreek mystery....

I found some time to get clue 14 cut out (I'm really scraping the bottom of the tub to find light blues)....

and got it sewn up and trimmed.
I have lots of bonus half square triangles again!

I also managed to get a few more Devil's Claw blocks finished up.

It helps to have some blocks set up near the sewing machine so they can be sewn when when there are a few spare minutes. The flying geese and the square in a square units are already pieced, so it's just a matter of doing some straight stitching--easy peasy!

Slow Sunday Stitching

We've had lots of rainy weather, which is good. I did a lot of garden and patio planting and the overcast skies and rain have helped my plants transition from being protected to living in the great outdoors.

And because of the rain, I am on a roll with my "How Does Your Garden Grow?" blocks.

Lotsa Lemoynes!

I'm so happy everyone managed to get at least one Lemoyne Star done in the class I taught on Friday. It was a fun afternoon! 

Here are some of the blocks in various states of completion:

 There were seven people in the class and I only have photos of five stars--not sure how that happened! 

To compensate, I'll share Dawn's adorable Buttermilk Basin block that she brought to class:

I finally got around to finishing my block too--not as cute as Dawn's little bird, but done is good!

Catching Up with Joe and a June Goal

Whew! I have finally managed to complete the parts of the ThimbleCreek Mystery that I had fallen behind on.....

Part 12 
22 more stars--this time with light centers and borders

Part 13
I don't know what these units are called, but there are 64 of them.

There were a lot of waste triangles from part 13, so I went ahead and sewed them into half square triangles--128 of them. Someday I hope to figure out a good project to use them in!

Since June is going to be a crazy month for me, I decided to give myself a break and chose one of my four patch tops as my finish for the month.

I went ahead and fixed my errant row--no more Where's Waldo--I hope!

I decided to be bold (for me) and will do a cheddar binding.
I have no clue how I will quilt it, but I have been wanting to try the straight line quilting that Mary of Country Threads has been using--I'm not sure if it will work for this quilt though. We'll see....
