May Finish and Slow Sewing

Little Boys Britches, my One Monthly Goal for May has been finished for a while.

The pattern is found in the book Quilts from the Barn--a Quiltmania book. I made mine a bit smaller than shown in the book.

It was a fun quilt to make.
Each block is 3 fabrics from my stash: two that coordinate and a background from my Edyta Sitar Silver Linings bundle of fat quarters.

It seems we went directly from winter to summer. Yesterday our outdoor thermometer registered 100 degrees--yikes! This morning was nice and cool, but it's starting to heat up again--a good reason to stay inside, enjoy the air conditioning and do some Slow Sunday Stitching!

Mid-Month Update (A Little Late!)

My One Monthly Goal, the Little Boys Britches quilt,  has been quilted and bound. I still need to add a label and I think I will use this left over block to do that.

Since I was able to get all the parts for Jamestown Landing finished at quilt camp, I decided to keep at it and put together the 42 blocks I need for the quilt. It's so nice to have them done and ready to sew up into the quilt top. I may make this my next goal, although I haven't decided if I will do the piano key border shown in the book. We'll see how June works out---I have a lot of garden plans that have priority over quilting (gasp!).

I had some extra pieces and parts left over from my Jamestown Landing blocks and put them together into a little mat to put under Willow's food dish in the kitchen.

Or maybe it will be a chill-out mat instead?

I also finished a little gift project--I was thrilled to find the perfect backing for it!
I'll show the rest soon!

Slow Mode

I'm back from my second retreat--whew!
It was so great, but now I need to recharge the batteries.
I may be too old to have that much fun--lol!
My goal at this retreat was to finish all the parts (hundreds!) needed for Jamestown Landing. I wasn't sure it was going to happen, but even though I was bored out of my  mind, I did it! I realized that although I love just about every quilt in Bonnie Hunter's String Fling book, I don't think string piecing is for me.
I had made the Half Square Triangles ahead of time and was a bit worried I wouldn't have enough to make all of the Broken Dishes blocks--turned out I had one extra HST!

I even got a few blocks put together.

You may remember when I made a block in Bonnie's class that I wasn't too pleased with the darker strings in my block shown on the far right. Before making the rest of the string blocks at this retreat, I pulled out most of the darker fabric strings from my bin and I'm much happier with the results.

My Little Boys Britches quilt is going to be my May One Monthly Goal to finish.
My setting triangles are a mottled Jeanne Horton fabric so I thought this print also designed by her would make a nice back.

I'm using the same fabric for the binding also, since the green print I had originally planned to use doesn't look so great with the backing. Hopefully I can get this completed right away--I have lots of yard work to do now that the snow has finally melted!
