Do you recognize this quilt/coverlet? I've had the Mrs. Billings pattern and templates buried sitting on my cutting table almost a year. My roadblock was indecision--I couldn't commit to any colors or fabrics--I was afraid to get started. Finally on Friday I got out my tub of Japanese taupes and started cutting. |
|
Well, you can see I didn't stick with that plan! I chucked everything I had started and dug out some Jo Morton fabrics--I'm not sure where the little check came from, but it jumped into the mix. I'm much happier now. |
|
Today I will be testing out fabrics for the next round--decisions, decisions.......
|
You can see many versions of this quilt by doing an online search for Mrs. Billings images--my very favorite version is
Laurie Simpson's. I have a pretty hefty stash of Minick and Simpson fabrics and could definitely pull off one similar to Laurie's, but I
don't want to be a copycat have to go my own way.

Indecision is a roadblock for me too on a major project I want to start. I guess I have to do what you did, and just start in and see what develops! This is an amazing project!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt! Quite a commitment but looks very worth it. Enjoy the journey. You are off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteYou are off and running on an awesome start! Projects always seem to come together best when started at the "right time"! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh I would say you are off to a great start. You just needed to get started. I know that feeling. Someone told me if you purchase fabrics you love in colors you love than they will always work in any quilt you make. Looking foward to your progress. Are you hand piecing this?
ReplyDeleteWow, this will be amazing, though I'm guessing a load of work!
ReplyDeleteOh wow...I have not seen this project before...amazing! I like your colors.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly why I haven't jumped into that pattern. So many decisions, but you are off and running. It's a beautiful start.
ReplyDeleteYour center is gorgeous!! It would surely be beautiful in taupes but the bright repros you've gone with just sparkle! I will just love to follow your progress :0) I had to smile at your not wanting to copycat Laurie Simpson - I love her Mrs Billings too, I also have the Minick and Simpson stash to do it but settled on using that stash to make a different quilt - The Circle Game
ReplyDeleteKaren you have made a gorgeous start! I love the fabrics and I have done the same. Can't decide on fabric so I haven't started it yet! I too am a huge fan of Laurie's coverlet - American Banner Rose is my all time fav line of fabrics. I can't wait to see the progress on your Mrs. billings! xo jan
ReplyDeleteI love your fabric selections. This is going to be a beautiful quilt. I will enjoy watching it grow.

ReplyDeleteYour fabric choices are lovely Karen. I have made this quilt and it takes alot of work! I'm so glad I saw your post as I posted a photo on my blog that couldn't be enlarged ( by mistake) so have now managed to correct. You may like to take a look.

Looks like you have been busy. I'm anxious to get my hexagons going again, just having a problem with too many other projects that also need my attention.
ReplyDeleteExcellent choice of fabrics in mk opinion! I think your quilt will be even better than the pattern.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous center! You know what to pick. I invite you to link to WIPs Be Gone and showcase that great EPP. I really, really like the colors your using.
