March One Monthly Goal finish

My One Monthly Goal was get my abbreviated version of Smith Mountain Morning (pattern by Bonnie Hunter) quilted and bound.

I found this large blue and brown floral fabric I used on the back at Grubers' Super Bowl tail gate sale. I was thinking a plaid would have made a better backing, but when the floral fabric is $4 a yard it becomes the  perfect fit!

I already had this blue buffalo check in my stash and decided it would make a fun binding.

I also have a second finish this month--Smith Mountain Morning's baby sister.
I'm calling it Breezy Point Afternoon--lol!
It was made using SMM leftovers.

I used up a lot of brown fabric from the stash for the back.

The binding was a newer purchase from Hobby Lobby. It was forty percent off on the day I was there shopping. I bought a half yard thinking it would come in handy and it did!
I'll be stitching on my labels later today.

  2. Two great finishes! Love BH patterns, but her full sized quilts are so big, I prefer to make smaller versions too.

  3. The floral print looks quite nice on the back.....and perfect choice at $4 a yard. I like the binding fabric on the Breezy Point quilt so another good purchase.
Have you been online shopping during the social distancing? I did some and the fabric came really fast.

  6. I love them both, Karen. I just love those colors! That floral is perfect, and the check binding is the perfect finishing touch for Smith Mountain. I love the little sister even more, and what a wonserful use of leftovers!

  7. Great fabrics, and color combo. I like the floral backing. It's a good contrast, in terms if design and texture to the front and the check binding is the finishing touch. Then to get a baby sister quilt, is even better.

  8. Two beautiful finishes! Nice use of leftovers, and I think your floral backing on the first quilt is a great pairing. It matches beautifully, yet is an unexpected surprise. The large flowers soften the very angular graphics of the quilt.
Checked, striped and plaid bindings are my favorites. Nice choices.

  14. Your Smith Mountain is such a visually stunning quilt, Karen. I love the plaid and the blue, brown, and white, especially in the arrangement you've chosen for the colors. I think the flowered back is the perfect choice for this quilt. It's almost like two quilts in one.
And thank you for posting the photo of the binding for Mountain Morning. I have that brown and red triple four-patch to bind and I've hesitated using brown plaids (not only because I have so few of them but because I was uncertain how the almost-bias-cut binding would look). I know your binding is full bias but maybe, just maybe the brown plaids I have will work.
Good for you to have two wonderful finishes this month!
