November UFO Candidate Chosen!

One of the projects I wanted to make progress on at quilt camp was my pile of lozenge blocks.
I managed to make myself sew all those light corners--about a day and a half of sewing.
These started out as a leader and ender project, but I have come to the conclusion that flippy corners aren't a good idea (for me) to have as that type of project. It's too easy to get sloppy zipping them through between other piecing and I seem to have a problem with flippy corners in general.

I worried all week (while I was at retreat) about the location of the dark corner lozenges since they weren't packed with the light ones I had brought along to work on. Thankfully, I didn't have to tear things apart too much to find them when I got home.

Now I have them all together in one place--whew! I was pretty relieved to find them and have no memory of putting them where I found them--must have been part of the retreat packing frenzy that went on--lol!
So many quilters are trying to finish up at least one of their unfinished Bonnie Hunter projects before her new mystery Allietare begins, so this will not only be my November UFO to complete, but also my BH project to finish up before Black Friday when the first mystery clue will be posted. It's good to know that I'm not the only one with numerous BH quilts in various stages of unfinishedness!

Since I'm not too excited about putting 350 lozenges on my design wall, I have been sewing them together somewhat randomly. I've been joining them in twos and then laying out and sewing a row. Then I build a new row off the previous one.

Only eleven more rows to go!

  1. So impressed by quilters who are working to complete UFO's before the end of the year is helping me to find my motivation and finish one of my own

  7. What a wonderful quilt this will be. I love the rich colors.
I don't know if I could have stayed focused long enough at a retreat to finish all of those flippy corners! : )

  8. The losenge quilt is coming together nicely. I love the contrast and as Janet said rich colors. You have some lovely fabrics. Look forward to seeing it all together. I'm looking forward to Black Friday too. Hope I have time to play.

  9. Love your lozenges. I want to make that quilt but had to finish Grand Illusion first and now I think I'll do her new mystery. I will definitely make the lozenges one day. I remember Bonnie made blocks of maybe 8 lozenges and then put them on the design wall saying it made it much easier to move them around and decide on an arrangement. I added that idea to my notes for when I finally make it,

  10. You didn't let all those floppy corners get you down and now the hard part is done. They look great. Glad you didn't have to dig too deep to find the other half of the blocks. It freaks you out when you can't remember where you put something. Ask me, I know!

  11. Wow, what gorgeous lozenges. I know that I wouldn't have wanted to try to do them as L&E, what with those flippy corners. ;-) I've done the same thing (way too often) to think (when I'm away from home) about something I need and being unable to remember where it was. I get so stressed out about it.

  14. I found the lozenges didn't work well as a leader and ender also. So mine are totally sidelined into to the "someday" pile

  18. I like the colors and fabrics you have used for your lozenges.

So, you are embarking on another mystery quilt. And I read where Thimble Creek is going to be doing another one soon.

  19. Oh I love this quilt! It looks a great way to use leftovers and to feature some very pretty prints. I'm curious to know how big the blocks are. If there are eleven rows to go I'm thinking they must be on the smaller side.
