Some Sunday Stitching

Last month I put my hand pieced Texas Stars top on my quilting machine and did some random basting with an old spool of orange thread. Since then I've done a little hand quilting on it in the evenings--not too much since I have arthritic wrists--lol! I usually manage to get one or two stars and their centers outlined before I have to call it quilts. There are 99 stars, so if I can keep up this pace, I may have this one quilted this year!

  3. There is nothing quite so satisfying as the look of hand applique. I wish it didn't take so long though. I keep thinking I'll just quilt longer at a time or maybe morning and evening. And then my fingers tingle and my hand goes numb or aches so badly that I have a hard time going to sleep. But, I'll just reduce my time - I'm not giving it up. Your quilt is going to turn out so great.

  5. Oh no, not the dreaded arthritis. It is no help when one wants to quilt, is it. Your Texas Stars is looking lovely. Enjoy your Sunday stitching.

  6. Wow--good for you. The quilt in my hoop has been there for years. I am so embarrassed! I should follow your lead and just do a little every day.

  7. Smart move, to machinebaste! It will be worth it to see this one finished, even if it does take a year.

  8. Looks so good! It's nice to have something 'loaded' and ready to go, for whenever you're up to it! :)

  9. Forgive the cliché, but slow and steady wins the race. Hand quilting on this quilt will be a perfect finish.

  10. Very pretty stars, and that's a nice pace for hand quilting.

  11. I've never thought of machine basting as it were. But hand quilting is so satisfying and I hope you are pain free for the allotted time you get to do it. And you are so good at it too. It's another beauty.

  12. There is something special and full of love that can be felt by fingers on a finished hand quilted item. No matter how long it takes, this will be worth it!

  13. Your quilt looks beautiful, Karen! I love how the blocks join and how they sometimes create a block that looks like a cube. It's sad about the arthritis but great that you can still do some hand quilting. I hardly know a person over about 55 or 60 who doesn't have arthritis somewhere.

  16. SO beautiful! I understand about the pain... it does limit the amount of hand stitching that is possible!
