A Little Update

On September 28th, Mr. Moosebay insisted on taking me to the ER. A week later, I woke to find that my entire colon had been removed, I had lost 20 pounds, was now diabetic, and had an ileostomy . They told me I had been in an induced coma as I "coded" and intubated during the first part of the surgery that was done to remove necrotic tissue. The rest of the surgery was finished the following day. I also had a dangerous C. Diff infection. Thankfully, I don't remember anything that happened before, during and for quite a while afterwards. The surgeon told me that he had done my particular surgery only five times before and he had only two survivors. I was one of them. I had been feeling a little angry that he had taken my whole colon, but realized what a miracle it was that I was even alive and so grateful for all of the efforts taken to make that happen.  I developed hospital-acquired and aspirational pneumonia. I became malnourished and had a feeding tube put in causing me to lose my voice and ability to swallow.

Finally, after three weeks flat on my back, I was sent to a nursing/rehab center. I worked very hard to get back on my feet and had an awesome team working with me. I was told I would probably be there for up to six weeks, but I am home now after only two weeks. I have nursing care coming in to help with my ileostomy, but I can dress  and shower myself.

The only time I cried during this ordeal was when I was gathering my things to go home....

I was so overwhelmed by how many wonderful cards, email, texts and messages I got with words of encouragement. You will never know how much they all meant to me--that you took the time to think of me. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I'm not sure when I will be up to working in my sewing  room again--hopefully soon.
In the meantime I will be working on getting  stronger with some help from my new wheels!

  1. Hard to hear all you have been through. It really takes perspective to be grateful with such challenges but it makes all the difference as you recover and get your strength back. I will pray for your continued courage to do just what you have set your mind and heart to and for the best healing to continue. You are an inspiration for all of us to remember to keep thankful hearts. Hugs and prayers!

  10. My goodness Karen, what an ordeal you have been through. I am so glad that you are starting to feel stronger and I hope that you continue to do so. Being positive in situations like this really helps and you sound as though you are being very positive in your outlook. I wish you well and may you continue to grow in strength. It is hard sometimes to hear the words 'stay positive' when I know you must have days of despair but, on those days, remember how far you have come rather than on how far there is to go. Hugs Christine xx

  17. When something threatens your life, it changes it but you choose how it changes you. I am glad that you are looking forward to choosing to see the gifts you do have. I had a car accident many years ago and have recovered but I still remember turning to the light and celebrating the support and love of family and friends. It won't be a path without sadness and loss but it will be a life arrirming life. Even though I don't know you personally, I appreciate your blog and your presence in my life. Thank you for sharing your story and reminding me to look with gratitude on all things in life. Choose life!! (It is one of the mottos I have co-opted for my own interpretation.)

  45. I caught genital herpes from my Ex Finance who never told me about the virus. it affected my life.. People think herpes is really a minor skin irritation but herpes has a long term effects on health. The stigma attached to this virus by ignorant people is ridiculous. Most people have herpes in one form or another, I was taking Antiviral medicines, such as acyclovir(Zovirax), famciclovi r(Famvir) and valacyclovir(Valtrex), They where recommended for treating primary genital herpes outbreaks. This medicine can be taken when an outbreak occurs. It can also be taken every day to help prevent outbreaks and it is not a total cure... I will like to tell everyone who is reading this my testimony on how i get rid of my genital herpes. I was reading a comment on the internet and i saw a testimony posted by a young lady on a blog forum that she got rid of her herpes with the help of herbalist Dr. Williams. So i was so happy when i saw that post that his herbal medication Cure the virus totally. I quickly copied the herbal doctor email address and i email him within few minutes he respond to my mail. I explain things to him, Then he told me not to worry that i will be cured if only i believe on herbal medicine. So he told me that he has prepare the herbal medicine after we have discussed, So he ask me to send him my address that he want to sent his herbal medication to me via DHL or FED-EX that was how i got the herbal medication and i use it as i was instructed. After two week i went to see a Medical Doctor who confirmed my herpes was no more. When some of my friend who has herpes saw me they were surprise and i also introduce them to the man and they are also cure from the same Genital herpes. I also refer my cousin to the same herbalist who was having DIABETES and she is fully cure.
