August One Monthly Goal Complete

Before this happened.....
...my August Afternoon Delight applique blocks were finished.
They were my One Monthly Goal for August and, I admit, not a very lofty goal. I didn't want to get too stressed before my wrist surgery on the 6th, so I went pretty easy on myself. I hope to make up for it later this year and get back to completing entire quilts, although that may be what contributed to wearing out my wrist cartilage in the first place--lol!

I was getting pretty desperate to find something to occupy my time (aside from reading and one handed weed pulling). I decided to try my hand (pun intended!) at an adult coloring page from Mary Engelbreit's site.  It was a nice diversion, but after spending so much time on it, what the heck do I do with it? Also, any ideas what the half circle is next to the W?
Hello thumb--I've missed you! I got my removable brace last week. It's so nice to be able to wash my arm and scratch an itch. I'm trying hard to not do too much yet, but I'm getting pretty antsy!

  1. I would get so tired of not being able to use my hand - I feel for you really - one day I must get my afternoon delight pattern out - I have barely started it

  4. I looked up examples of the coloring page on ME's website, and it's an incomplete image of one of her signature "fried egg flowers". Sort of like the half flower next to the W of "know" and 2 simple leaves like a pair of the dragonfly's wings. Mary's been one of my favorite artists for years!

Hope you're healing well, and you'll be back quilting in no time! Stay safe!

  5. Ha! When I saw the first photo I thought your goal was just to mend your wrist! That would be a very commendable August goal all by itself. :-)

  6. Congratulations on being such a good patient and listening to the Doctor's orders. You are doing GREAT! I can understand that it is boring and you're getting restless, but hang in there. Good times will roll right up again. Beautiful colouring. ;^)

  8. Coloring might be fun, but playing with fabric is much better. Don't get to anxious though. Glad you're making progress.

  9. I have been wondering how you are doing, Karen. It sounds like progress with your wrist if you've changed to a removable brace.
Your finishes for the month are beautiful!

  11. Thank you for the update...which is probably a feat all by it's self! so glad to hear you are healing and have progressed to the removable brace. This is such a challenge! I see Kathy came up with a good answer for you. I would have guessed a sun peeking out or a half finished flower.
You can do this (which i'm also telling myself today as I head into a prolotherapy treatment for my knee(google Caring Medical.com for what that is ;-0 Praying still for your fastest recovery. Hugs!

  14. I feel for you! Take it easy - you don't want to have to re-do your surgery!!! In the meantime, I hope you heal quickly!!! And ... while you're colouring - look at the colours that please you when they're next to each other and the ones that don't ... and try some weird combinations ... you never know what you might learn! :-)

  17. Nice blocks you completed before your surgery Karen. Glad your wrist is healing and it is worth the effort of being patient so that you don't undo the good that the surgery has done! The colouring looks like a great diversion..... not sure what the semi-circle is though! Christine xx

  18. Your pre-surgery blocks look so happy and well made.
And you do well with the colored pencils, too. Nice shading and highlighting.
So good to see progress with your healing. Do go slowly (from someone who moved too quickly after shoulder surgery and greatly lengthened her healing time!!!).
