A Little Sunday Slow Sewing

My Cherry Basket quilt wasn't really quite finished--I almost forgot the label! We seem to have endless snow outside--perfect for staying in the sewing room and getting some hand work done.
BTW, these little Dip & Dab glue tubes from Roxanne's are pretty handy. I bought a ton of them (as well as the large refill bottle) from Quilt in a Day when they were on sale. Quilt in a Day has a daily special and I've scored some sweet deals! You have to sign up for an email alert on their home page so you don't miss the daily deal. Their shipping is very reasonable too!
Okay, enough of that!

It won't take long to get that label stitched down, but I'm not in danger of running out of hand work material. My 13th Mrs. Billing border is slowly coming along. I've stitched out 48 pairs for each of the four sides and now need to put them together in rows. The fun never ends (sarcasm!).
If only I could hand piece like Yoko Saito. If you have seen THIS VIDEO, you know what I mean--she is incredible!

At least my corners are done!

  3. That video is fascinating. I've never heard of see the thumb cutter, that would be so convenient. Her method of knotting at the end of the seam took a few times for me to figure it out. I'm going to try it the next time I applique. I love the colors/fabrics you are using for Mrs. Billings. It will be so beautiful.

  5. Thank you for the link to Yoko Saito...it's amazing that she cuts with scissors, pieces by hand and just kind of freeforms that log cabin block....yet it looks so perfect! :-) Kind of makes me wonder why I invested in a machine, many quilt rulers and a rotary cutter (with expensive blades)? Not to mention the time I've spent agonizing over a quarter inch vs a scant quarter inch seam? lol! Ah well.... live and learn.... I supposed there is a time and place for each technique?
Love this Billings corners! I may want to try that some day too! ;-)

  7. I admire all of your hand stitching. You seem to do it very well, to me!
I enjoy it to a point, but I have to break it up with some machine piecing. :)

  8. Your Mrs B quilt is going to be fantastic. It's nice to have a few snowy days to settle into the hand stitching rhythm. Is the Dip and Dap like a glue stick?

  9. Okay, I just watched the video. Incredible. I didn't catch what kind of needle she uses, but it looked long like a straw needle? Wow!
