July Goals Met!

My One Monthly Goal quilt is complete.
I didn't intend to rotate the orientation of the Schoolgirl Puzzle blocks, but about half way though adding the triangles around the blocks, I realized I had turned the directional fabric on some of the them. In the end, I'm liking the way it turned out. Sometimes big boo-boos become happy accidents!
There is a small flower in the light blue check that needs to be face up--lol!

The back is a very nice quality, wide muslin from a donation to one of our sewing groups. I like the way it shows off the  Easy Orange Peel pantograph I used for the quilting. Because of the light back, I used a cream colored thread to do the quilting.

Scrappy binding.
I have a small stash of QOV labels so this quilt is ready to go!

A little traditional, a little funky!

That stack of cut blocks I showed in a previous post has all been sewn.

My favorite and least favorite blocks of the group.
Sail Away: favorite because it's cute. Drum: least favorite because of those skinny quarter inch pieces.

And then this happened--15 more blocks!
Only 17 left to go--yay!!!!

Mid July Update

My One Monthly Goal for July is finished--more on that later this month.

I don't think I posted the June   Patches of Blue quilt along block. The block instructions are posted mid-month, so I didn't work on this until I finished my goal quilt.

This week, I've been working on some 4" x 5" Anthology blocks.
Twenty more finished!

I was pretty nervous to do this one--the flying geese are 3/4" x 1" finished.
It's not perfect, but it will do.

This is my favorite of the group of twenty. I think it would make a pretty quilt.
In a bigger size block.

The 4" x 5" Anthology group I've been sewing along with has kind of morphed into a Summer Circles Enabler group--lol! I've been working on these a little at night (when I should be finishing up Mrs. Billing hexies!).

And today Edyta posted the July Patches of Blue block(s). It was nice to sew up something bigger than a 4" x 5" block!

A Patriotic Goal

I'm doing the One Block Challenge from Annette Plog.  The challenge block is the Schoolgirl's Puzzle and was chosen by Laurie Simpson.

So far this year I've managed to resist joining every sew along or challenge that crosses my path. My July One Monthly Goal was an exception for a couple of reasons.

It gave me a chance to put my Cat's Cradle ruler in action.

I don't use the ruler a lot but I love how easy it makes these units!

It's an opportunity to use some of my Minick and Simpson stash--this is one of two peach crates filled with M&S scraps and precuts.

My personal challenge is to get my blocks large enough to make a QOV quilt. No other pieced blocks can be used in the challenge, so it's either make a lot of blocks or build them out.

I opted for making just twelve blocks and adding triangles, sashing and borders to get my quilt to the right size.

I'm loving how it's looking so far--it's going to be hard to give this one away! My One Monthly Goal is to get this pieced, quilted and bound!
