An August UFO choice on a Slow Sewing Sunday!

I had a hard time deciding what I should choose to finish this month--unfortunately I have lots of options!
Since I will be starting a new Bonnie Hunter top on Wednesday, I thought this may be a good month to finish Easy Street. I found that I had already made the binding (yay!) and had some backing fabrics chosen (but not sewn together--boo!). I think I can get away with an edge to edge design, so it should be a pretty simple finish.
I'm feeling a bit of trepidation on starting a new Bonnie Hunter project. It seems like most times I have an issue like I did HERE and HERE--lol!
The Snowman: A Harry Hole Novel (7) (Harry Hole series) by [Nesbo, Jo]
I also seem to have another group of UFO's--or maybe ULO's (unlistened  objects). I've had a bunch of Audible books on my phone that I had purchased years ago. I've been trying to listen to them during my daily walks rather than finding something new. I really enjoyed The Snowman. The entire time I was listening, I was thinking how the story would make a great movie. I've just learned it is going to be a movie, released in October. This isn't the first Harry Hole mystery, and there were a few personal threads that probably overlap from the other HH books, but I don't think you need to have read the other books to enjoy this one. Now I want to read the rest of Jo Nesbo's Harry Hole books!  Anyway, if you liked the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo books, I think you would enjoy this one-it has that kind of feel.

State of Wonder: A Novel by [Patchett, Ann]
Now I'm on to State of Wonder. It starts out in Minnesota but quickly shifts to  Brazil where it's hot, hot, hot.  Maybe not the best thing to be listening to when you are walking in humid summer heat--unlike The Snowman, set in Norway during the winter. I'm not too far into the book yet, but there are some very interesting characters and I'm intrigued.
You've probably read these books long ago, but if not, this was my two cents!

On the bus trip, I finished hand piecing the half stars that go along the vertical edges of my Texas Star quilt.

And I only have this one seam left to finish the top--yee-haw!!
If I knew how to do the Texas Two Step, I would be doing it--so excited to see this so close to the end! I think my Slow Stitching today will see this one done!

  4. Love audio books!
I listen to them while weeding, house cleaning and sewing! On a drive I can do 1000 miles a day (my house to San Diego) when I have one going. I have been working on a Patchwork of the Crosses and managed to finish up most of Michael Connelly books while doing so. Thank the Gods my local library has tie ins with the others here in central Oregon and I have such a wide access to so many CD's

  6. So, which BH quilt are you going to start? I have too many on the go, but I love them all! It's a good plan to finish Easy Street first. I've told myself I have to finish two before the next mystery!

  7. Hi Karen! I found you through the Slow Stitching link party. Your stars in the thumbnail pic drew my attention immediately, for I have made a quilt very similar to this. Mine was hand pieced, as well, and then I hand quilted it. Talk about a long-term project! As I've read the post, I see that you talk about reading, and your tastes seem to mesh with mine; given this, I feel that I must peruse your blog further!! This is what linky-parties are for - connecting like-minded people! Have a great Sunday!

  8. Enjoy the final stitching on the Texas Star top. I look forward to seeing Easy Street finished. Your comment on having the binding ready made me realize that I should prepare the binding for my son's quilt that is at the quilters right now. It is always nice to have it ready ahead of time.

  10. Easy street will be a great finish! I haven't made a Bonnie Hunter quilt yet - maybe this year's mystery :0) Which new quilt of hers are you going to be starting? Your Texas stars are fabulous.

  11. Oh, I just got inspired to keep working on my hexie star project ;-) Loving your Texas Stars! What size are your blocks, and how many are you doing for what size quilt?
Remember reading Snowman when it was first published, and loved it. I enjoyed his other books about Harry Hole as well, but have to say I absolutely adore his children's books - if you find them, read them - they are very enjoyable ;-)

  12. Your Texas star quilt is beautiful!! I found a pattern for the "grandmother" of your quilt on pinterest [ https://www.pinterest.com/pin/401664860499135492/ ] but the pattern is not fitting together correctly. Do you have a pattern or did you make your own? What size are the finished stars.
Thanks so much for any help you can provide.

  15. Congrats on being so close to the finish with your stars. They are gorgeous. I know that hand stitching must be slow going. I'm looking forward to seeing your Easy Street (probably again because I made that one, too, when Bonnie posted it as a mystery quilt). Mine is still unquilted (and not completely loved).

  17. Starting a Bonnie Hunter quilt on Wednesday huh? That's pretty specific. Are you lucky enough to get into the class she's giving here? It was full by the time I looked into it, but am going to try and make her lecture tomorrow night in Chaska.

  18. I have to laugh about wanting to read books with cold weather in the heat of summer! I've never thought about it but I have to admit I'm reading a book set in Vermont in the dead of winter now. congratulations on being almost finish. That's a great quilt. I'm assuming it's EPP. Wonderful job.

  21. Love Jo Nesbo. Have read all his books. While his books stand alone, there is a progression/pattern/theme/thread that starts with book one. Enjoy.
