June Wrap-up!

My June OMG (One Monthly Goal) was to finish the ThimbleCreek Summer Sampler AKA Civil War Jubilation (the title on the finishing instructions). I had the top loaded on my HQ16 back in late May, but didn't get it quilted until last Friday. Procrastination is my middle name.
I used Kim Diehl fabrics for the blocks and pinwheels with Zen Chic backgrounds.
I picked up the backing fabric on sale. Even though it's a wide back, it was a remnant, so I had to do a little creative addition to make it large enough for the quilt.

Somewhere along the line, Joe decided to change the name of the quilt. I will continue to use Summer Sampler title since the quilt has pine trees, cabins, beach balls, and berry baskets--looks like summer to me (and I didn't use any Civil War repros fabrics).

Mousseau Bay is another project on my 2nd quarter list for 2017 Finish A Long.
Our guild had an "Up North" challenge to go along with the theme of our show last week.
My entry has a lot of critters. I ran out of room for the squirrel, skunk and woodpecker that I had cut out. I used the official spelling of Moose Bay that is sometimes used on maps. It's all wool applique, so it went together very quickly.

All of the fabrics came from my stash, including the scrap pieces of binding.

I'm not totally in love with this project and kind of rushed to get it finished, so I slacked on the label and just inked directly onto the backing--my bad!

  3. Two wonderful finishes, Karen. I think Summer Sampler makes much more sense as the name for the first one. It does exude a camp/woodsy feel with the cabin and tree blocks. And the colors are more indicative of Summer than CW, IMHO.
And speaking of woodsy--your little challenge quilt is adorable, with all of the wildlife in their habitat. Love everything about it. Lots of fun little details in the stitching. Nice job!

  5. Summer Sampler is wonderful. I didn't use one piece of civil war fabrics either. It's a delightful finish! The animals on your "Up North" quilt are great. It's like they're all waiting for the summer folks.

  11. What a great sampler quilt. Irish chain settings are one of my favorites. The background fabric for your Up North woolie block is just perfect. I can just see all of your charming woodsy friends roaming in the forest

  12. Your Thimble Creek is just perfect. It's fun to see such a variety of blocks and also see the repetition of the diagonals between the blocks. Your Mousseau Bay is such fun. I'm amazed that you were able include so many animals, and all in spaces where their real-life counterparts would be. And I really love those green leaves along the side against the red background and the fish at the bottom. Those fish look very realistic.

  13. Your Thimblecreek quilt turned out beautifully -- it is interesting to see the different variations. I am mystified by "mousseau", I think I will have to look that up! But in any case, two big finishes is a great job for June!

  14. My favourite is your Moose Bay critter quilt, so fun, love that you chose the original spelling for the name. Did you design it or is it a pattern?
