Something Fishy!

Humble Quilts
I'm just back from quilt camp, and the first thing I needed to do (after visiting the clinic for my flu shot) was link up my Gwennie Inspired Medallion.  I got this finished just before I left for camp:
I wanted my quilt top to be a rectangle, so I added my "Something Fishy" themed final borders only on the top and bottom.

I was calling these arches clam-shells to comply with the fishy scheme, but my friend Val said they were fish scales--even better!!

My top isn't as free-form and carefree as a true Gwen Marsden  would be, but I'm happy with the results and it was a fun sew along.
The best part: finally using my Lori Smith orphan block for the center.
Thanks Lori!

  4. Lovely finish Karen, I find I have to keep going back to Lori's page to see who is adding their pieces. I think we all did well!

  6. Your clam shells/fish scales are so wonderfully large and graphic. I think they are the perfect finish to this quilt. And the colors are spot on. I think these borders, top and bottom, are a great way to extend a quilt to become rectangular instead of square. All in all, a wonderful quilt, Karen.

  11. Isn't it a great feeling when you find a home for something that never did quite get finished the first time around? What a perfect home for your Lori Smith block. It looks wonderful center stage. And your wonky little stars are just so charming.

  12. Beautiful!! Love the bright, happy blue! I don't think I could manage to do as free form as Gwen either... It was a really interesting quilt along to watch from the sidelines.

  14. I love your clam shells/fish scales - whichever they are, they're spot on! They echo the curves out from the center of the quilt perfectly.
This really was the most wonderful QAL, wasn't it? 8)
